Well it seems the Bush administration really loves animals, what with the plans to drill in ANWR and all and now this (BBC's take). This is some really sad stuff.
Surely its a fair trade to violenty burst the eardrums of whales and other such animals in the name of "national secuirty." Of recent concern to the Bush administration's security commission was an oddly marked migratory bird seen flying from the general direction of mainland China to within 1000 nautical miles of Alaska.
I'm quite sure this harrowing situation immediately prompted Bush to okay this new sonar. Worst part of all this is that the general public will never know about this (if they did would they care?) as whales and other sonar using aquatic mammals with bleeding and ruptured ears die slowly on some anonymous postcard beach.
I just want to know where the proof of credible threat is. Even if it is found and disclosed to the general public is it really fair to toture and kill random whales and dolphins whilst searching for and "neutralizing" this threat.
There has to be a better way than this.
I for one love whales.
P.S. I have yet to find this story on any of the major US "news" websites such as ABC, NY Times, CNN, MSNBC, etc.
